Freddy vs. Jason

What is more slasher-ific on a Slasher Saturday than two of the most popular horror icons pitted against each other in one film? Bring it on!

It's actually kind of surprising that it took me this long to watch this one (literally 10 years). I am a big fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise and I've seen few of the Friday the 13th movies, but I have enjoyed the ones I have seen.

'One, two, Freddy's coming for you...'
Years after Freddy Krueger terrorized Springwood, the citizens have forgotten about him. They have covered all traces of his reign of terror and they no longer fear him depriving him of his power to haunt their dreams and he just disappears. But Freddy has a plan to come back. Somewhere in the woods Jason Voorhees lies, but he isn't dead, only dreaming. Freddy invades his dream in the visage of his mother to resurrect him. He instructs him to go to Elm Street and kill again. It would make the people of the town think Freddy has returned, in turn breeding the fear he needs to actually return. However, Jason angers Freddy by killing his potential victims, creating conflict between the two that culminates into epic duels.

But, how would it be possible for these two to fight when one lives in an ethereal dream world and the other in real life? Tranqs! At one point Freddy invades the body of a teen and tranquilizes Jason, bringing him to his world. Freddy of course has the advantage and discovers Jason's fear of water, manipulating him and almost killing him.

The first battle in Freddy's nightmare world
Meantime, in the real world the teen protagonists discover they can somehow bring Freddy out of the nightmares. They bring an unconscious Jason to Camp Crystal Lake (his origin). So when Freddy is brought out of the nightmare, Jason will have the "home field" advantage. Once they accomplish this, the final and most gruesome battle in the film begins!

Final showdown in the real-world
All in all, this movie did not disappoint. Although I love Freddy, I think ultimately Jason won this one. He definitely had more kills throughout the movie and is just kind of more badass.
